Keeping your site safe and secure

Every website needs to be kept safe. There are many ways the ‘baddies’ try to attack your site. On average, every website worldwide is attacked between 90 and 200 times per day (and sometimes thousands of attacks per hour!)

With WordPress, as with any dynamic website, it’s particularly important to protect your site with good security measures; a sound backup and update regime, and a close eye on the WordPress ‘ecosystem’ and the plugins that make up your particular site.

If you are on one of our managed hosting platforms, we do the heavy lifting for you.

We run backups and check for the latest update on a daily basis. We keep an eye on compatibilities and we run rolling and remote backups and careful system upgrades for your website.

This is critical for any eCommerce site, but it’s also pretty important for any website. The last thing you want is a hacked website that can’t be easily salvaged. And remember, a stitch in time saves nine, and forensics and salvage operations are costly and time-consuming! Better to be safe than sorry. Now, is that enough clichés for one page?

I’m getting an alert about an update

If you see any alert about an update, feel free to forward this to us for our attention. Chances are we are onto it already.

Why don’t you update everything the moment it comes out?

In most cases we do. But your site is usually a carefully selected mix of various clever plugins and custom code that we’ve helped setup for you. It’s always good to check for compatibilities and make sure that one update doesn’t affect something else. These issues are normally identified and ironed out in the hours and weeks after a major update has been rolled out globally, but sometimes there are unique or particular quirks that need to be addressed. It’s always best for us to be on standby to check things.

I’m not on one of your ‘managed hosting’ plans

If you feel 100% confident that you can manage all the plugins, security systems and backups, you’re more than welcome to go for it. Just remember people don’t generally appreciate a good backup regime until their computer dies. Likewise many people don’t appreciate a solid website security and backup system until it goes down.
