Gmail interface

These days, everyone knows Gmail – one of the world’s most loved cloud-based email systems. What many people don’t realise is that gmail can work as an ’email client’ or email program, to collect your mail from other non-gmail accounts.

Gmail offer a paid system called Google Workspace, that allows for custom domains to run on their servers. We recommend this system as a great long-term solution for your business or organisation, but there are costs associated, per user, per month.

As an alternative to a paid gmail system, there are ways we can help setup a gmail account to collect and send your emails through our servers, without paying gmail extra for this. Normally it’s best if you create the gmail system and we can either show you how to configure it, or in some cases we can help with this.

Gmail is great because it gives you massive storage space and the ability to sync up your emails to any computer/device, and also run your emails through its own gmail app on touch devices.

Greengraphics does not normally provide SMTP (sending) services, but in limited cases we can offer various outgoing SMTP systems, including but not limited to AmazonSES, Postmark and Mailgun.

Please note there are a few things to keep in mind when using Gmail as your email interface:

• • Use the Gmail App on your phone and touch device.
  • You can switch between various gmail accounts if you have more than one. You don’t need to login and logout of each!
  • You might need to go into Settings and then ‘check mail’ if you need to check for an urgent message. Sometimes Google can take 10 or more minutes to ‘check’ for mail each time (see screenshot below).
  • When you’re running a gmail system, remember that all the google policies will apply to your email system.
  • Obviously we can’t control Google/gmail so if anything goes wrong, we may or may not be able to help with this nifty system. You’ll be relying on the Google/gmail infrastructure and your own backups etc for your peace-of-mind and business continuity.
